Very light and well made. Optically excellent. Mar 06, 2008
These sunglasses are my 4th pair of Maui-Jim's. The company makes the best in the world in my opinion. This model is very light, optically as good as glass (I still can't find a description of the Evolution lens that indicates the material) and very comfortable to wear. Recommended.
The perfect pair of all around casual use sunglasses May 23, 2007
Maui Jim is known for their excellent lenses, and this model sports their Evolution lens, which is their most advanced lens. From what I can tell, this is a plastic lens so you still have to be careful about scratching it, but Maui Jim lenses used multiple advanced coatings to protect and provide their good optical traits. There are no specifics about what is so special about this Evolution lens but it does have their advanced PolarizedPlus 2 protection, and excellent antiglare coating on the backside and slight mirror effect on the front. The glasses are light as a feather thanks to its near rimless construction (It actually has a very thin rim around the lenses but it sits inside a groove in the perimeter of the lens) and it has an ultra advanced advanced alloy frame. I bought the Bronze color which blocks out 88% of the light compared to 91% with the dark grey color. It's great for driving, the bronze cuts blue light to sharpen the image on hazy days, and the bronze color makes things seem a bit more contrasty. The colors are warm and rich looking without going too far. This medium-dark tint is great for all weather conditions.
The Maui Jim polarized plus lens has 7 coatings according to their brochure: waterproof coating, bigradient coating, Clear shell scratch proof coating on both sides of the lens plus antireflective coating on the back.
I find these glasses a pleasure to look through. They are perfect all around glasses. If you are going on a snow expedition, they aren't dark enough, but you should find these good everyday sunglasses with their classic styling
